40 GB on 1,3 inches
LaCie has now launched four new products which uses a hard disk on 1,3-inches. The hard disks and produced by Samsung and it is available on 30 and 40 GB. 1,3 Inches is the same as the size of a Compact Flash II memory card.
LaCie USB Key Max
The “Little Disk” series from LaCie now got the smallest extern disks. You can also find this small hard disk in the new product “USB Key Max” earlier known as Carte Orange. This USB-disk will also be available on 30 GB (orange) and 40 GB (black). Both of the disk uses power straight from the USB cable which is integrated in the disk. The hard disk comes with a speed of 3600 rpm and 2 mb cache. For “Little Disk” the transfer speed reaches up to 30 MB/s while USB Keu Max reaches 15 MB/s. LaCie’s 30 GB version costs around 130$ and the 40 GB version costs around 160$. Key Max 30 GB version costs however only 110-120$ while the 40 GB version costs 150$.
From February this year you can order the products from LaCies onlinestore.

It isn’t solid state - but it is here and available’ish. Chuck in a WiFi for NAS and I’ll take take a couple!
I wonder if you could use the same form factor to actually make a CF-sized card that would fit in the same slot as a real one. From a R/W lifetime and cost standpoint, it would be really useful. Like for clusters and stuff.
