Tiny huge 1 terrabyte optical disk
This is called TeraDisk and it is really small, as a simple CD / DVD. But it is really huge in terms of space. 1 TB (1000 GB). How can we do this? The process is simple (or not). All optical media recording data on the semiconductor layers. A CD and a 1 layer of a Blu-Ray has until 8. The reason why nobody can add several layers on a regular CD / DVD / Blu-Ray disc is because when light passes through these layers, it becomes distorted and when he reached the final layer, it becomes almost impossible read / write to disk.
TeraDisk reached the limit of 1 TB with 200 layers, each storing 5 GB of data. Therefore, the data support basically remain the same (TeraDisk will consist of the same Plexiglas like material used for the remaining disks), but the read / write laser technology is completely new. They say it’s going to be cheap, and it will be available to the public in 2010.
