AMD demos 45 nm processors
Hanover (Germany) - AMD is increasing power of its processors to 45 nm, at CeBIT visitors have a chance to see samples of 45 nm Opteron with Shanghai base and 45 Phenom Teneb with their first public demonstration.
It’s not like AMD is close to publish these processors, but the company wants to remind us that it is still working on these processors, and they are still on track for a 2008 introduction. The manufacturer has not released details on the clock speeds and power consumption, but the spokesman said Gary Silcott TG Daily that improvements have been made “at every level”.
The first 45 nm generation CPU will continue to be using immersion lithography (EUV unlike on the road) and, with the exception of Intel 45 nm chips, not to use high-k dielectric metal gate technology . AMD believes it can be “competitive” without high-k for the moment, but noted that Silcott high-k is an option to be introduced at a later stage of the production 45 nm - and certainly at 32 nm
