Intel attacked for violating patents on Core 2
Bad news for Intel, the microprocessor giant is indeed accused by WARF, Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, to have violated a patent to develop its line of Intel Core 2 Duo processors. According to the press release issued by WARF and consulted here, Core 2 processors use a technology similar to that described in a patent named “Table Based Data Speculation Circuit for Parallel Processing Computer” and filed by the agency in 1998.
Related to cached data in predictive calculations, the technology was presented at Intel since 2001 when the WARF has been in contact with the giant of Santa Clara. Nevertheless, and despite various meetings with representatives of WARF, Intel did not want to take licensed the technology in question. That is why the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation has decided to bring the case to court by asking all the same stop outright deliveries of Core 2 processors. They will ask why WARF has not reacted before and had waited so long before coming forward. For its part, Intel does for the moment no comment.
